VRAC is located in the Edward McCracken wing of Howe Hall at Iowa State University. This wing was made possible by a generous donation from Edward McCracken, an alumnus of Iowa State University. McCracken graduated in Electrical Engineering in 1966 and later became the CEO of Silicon Graphics (SGI). SGI equipment played a crucial role during the formative years of VRAC, including the construction of the first C6 system.
